The SAS computer network uses the SANET II optical network for communication, which connects university towns in the Slovak Republic. SAV has its organizations in the following regions: Bratislava, Nitra, Tatry, Zvolen (B. Bystrica), Košice. Detached workplaces are also scattered in Považie, so the SAS organizations in the network in the Slovak Republic are divided into 6 regions:
Bratislava (Ivanka pri Dunaji, Trnava) | 76 SAS organizations |
Nitra (Mlyňany, Hurbanovo) | 7 SAS organizations |
Zvolen (Banská Bystrica) | 5 SAS organizations |
Košice (Michalovce) | 14 SAS organizations |
Tatry (Poprad, Lipt. Mikuláš) | 6 SAS organizations |
Považie (Trenčín, Piešťany, Pov. Bystrica, Martin) | 5 SAS organizations |
REGIONS
SANET II metropolitan networks are being built in regional cities and SAS organizations are joining them. The network is most complex in the Bratislava region, where the concentrated place of research is the SAS – Patrónka campus, which is connected to 44 SAV workplaces located in 25 buildings. The entire SANET II and SAV network is built on optics with a speed of 1 Gb/s on connection networks and Nx100Gb/s on the backbone network of SR with the possibility of connecting up to 10 Gb/s.
In In 2001 and 2002, the SANET backbone network was rebuilt on optical fibers with a new topology and technology, which were terminated in gigabit switches with Ethernet technology in individual nodes. The backbone network was gradually switched over to 10 Gb/s technology.
In 2021, a router was replaced at the SAS node, which uses a 2x100Gb/s connection directly to SIX and a second connection via FIIT STU to connect to the Internet.
The CC SAV manages the SAS network in the Bratislava region, which also includes the locations of Smolenice, Dobrá Voda (1 SAS organization connected to the SANET network via a node in Trnava) and part of the Považie region. In Bratislava (except for the Patrónka campus), 26 SAS workplaces are connected to the SAS network by means of an optical cable with a transmission speed of 1 Gb/s.
In the Patrónka area, there are approximately 5.2 km of optical fibers between the buildings. In buildings, the network continues via TP cables with transmission speeds of 1 Gb/s or 100 Mb/s and is connected to the organizations’ LANs. The SAS workplaces in the Patrónka campus are connected to the SANET backbone network through two ARUBA switches in HA mode and a HUAWEI router, which are connected to the SANET backbone network at a transmission speed of 2×100 Gb/s. There are 44 SAS organizations connected in 25 buildings, while some organizations have more connections because they are located in several buildings.
The CC SAS is a node of the SANET II skeleton network and therefore, in addition to the SAS organizations, it also provides services to other members of the SANET II civic association. Currently, CC SAS provides services and connects 19 SANET members to the SANET network.
